ACHS 2015 Historical Walking Tours Season


Date: April 23rd - late October

ACHS will be offering tours of Historic Court Square throughout the 2015 Historical Walking Tour season. Stroll around Historic Court Square, familiar to Thomas Jefferson, James Madison and James Monroe. Learn about the early years of Charlottesville, its citizens, businesses, and buildings. Tours begin at the Albemarle Charlottesville Historical Society (200 Second Street, NE Charlottesville, VA 22902). Cost is $5/person. Tickets can be purchased from your guide at the start of the tour.

Court Square Walking Tours are offered on the following schedule:
Thursday evenings at 5:30 p.m.
Friday evenings at 5:30 p.m.
Saturday mornings at 10:00 a.m.
First Sunday of the month at 2:00 p.m.

Take a ride on the Hatton Ferry

Location: 10120 Hatton Ferry Road, Scottsville, Virginia

Date: April 18th - October 25th: Saturdays 9:00 am - 5:00 pm / Sundays 12:00 pm - 5:00pm

Cost: Free; donations requested

The Hatton Ferry will commence its 2015 operating season Saturday April 18th. Come take a ride on the Hatton Ferry, an historic ferry across the James River and the only poled ferry still operating in the United States, April 18th through October 24h. The Hatton Ferry operates free of charge; donations appreciated as the operation of the ferry relies solely on donations given to ride the ferry and from the kind generosity of other supporters.

Under ideal conditions, a round-trip crossing takes about 30-45 minutes. No more than two cars and six people can be taken at one time. The Hatton Ferry is located in southern Albemarle, a few miles outside of Scottsville. *The ferry cannot operate when the water level in the James River is too high or too low. Please Note: If calling to check on the status of the Hatton Ferry, please call ACHS the Friday before you plan to ride the ferry between the hours of 9:00 am and 4:30 pm.
