Oakwood Cemetery Tour

Come explore Oakwood, one of Charlottesville's two historic Public Cemeteries (along with Maplewood), on Friday, July 1st at 5:30pm. The Albemarle Charlottesville Historical Soceity is pleased to announce that Dr. Lynn Rainville will be leading this tour. The one-hour tour will offer you a chance to explore the unique space and learn more about the people who have been buried here over the years. Since event space is limited, we strongly recommend that you purchase tickets in advance.

Dr. Rainville's tour will highlight the unique history of the cemetery and its residents. The city obtained the land in the 1860s and the Oakwood Cemetery opened in 1883, after Maplewood ran out of space for new family plots. Today the cemetery contains over 14 acres.
