Country Store at Carter’s Bridge

Visitor Comments:

William C. Thacker, Jr. says - September 04, 2011

This “Country Store at Carter’s Bridge” was built and operated by my paternal grandparents, William Compton and Ada Huffman Thacker but I am not sure of the dates. It is located at the intersection of State Routes 20 and 627 just before Route 20 crosses over the Hardware River. The Carter’s Bridge Post Office was located in this building and Ada Thacker served as the last Postmistress.

I, along with my family, live in the Thacker house on Carter’s Mountain Rd. We’ve lived here for a little over 9 yrs. now & I would love to know more about the history of the house, the family, Country Store, etc. I have talked to some family members years ago but I would love any more information I could get. We love this house & I’m sure the history behind it (& the land) would be of great interest to us. Thanks for any help/info. anyone has to give us.
