Co. area on Rhein, Bonn, 1 April 1945--"Our commanding officer was off on the other side of the Rhine, so we were sitting in Bonn for a week while he was gone, and a couple of guys found this wonderful winery and it was so great they came back and emptied out all the water jugs we were using and went to fill them up at the winery."

Rick MacLeay says - May 07, 2013

RE:Rhein, Bonn April 1945.  My Father Bob MacLeay was driving a vehicle there in the countryside and lost control and rolled it.  He broke his back, and was rescued by locals, shipped back Stateside and in a body cast for a year. The MPs found wine in the water jugs, and blamed him.  He knew nothing about it and was not a drinker. He has always wondered who to blame!  He is doing well in Lawrence, KS. He turns 88 on Sunday (May 12, 2013).
