The Albemarle Charlottesville Historical Society is a private, non-profit educational organization (I.R.S. 501 (c) 3). The Society is a membership organization, open to all, and receives no continuing operating support from federal, state or local governments. More than a Roof: Charlottesville Residential
Date: Opening May 4th
This exhibition surveys key aspects of Charlottesville's residential architecture between the late 19th century and the present. In doing so it illuminates a good deal of our city’s history. The exhibition explores the way that developers, builders, architects, homeowners, and renters have sought to balance social and cultural ideals with changing economic, technological, and spatial possibilities. This exhibit, researched and designed by the students in Prof. Daniel Bluestone's Community History course at the UVA School of Architecture, explores the forms and functions of Charlottesville's residential living throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. Learn More
