(CHARLOTTESVILLE) The Albemarle Charlottesville Historical Society is proud to announce the publication of The Historic Charlottesville Tour Book, a 200-page booklet featuring 10 walking and driving tours of beautiful Charlottesville, Virginia.
The Tour Book is the fruit of many months of labor, a collaboration between the Historical Society and Charlottesville's Historic Resource Task Force.
A truly extraordinary place, Charlottesville, Virginia--with its many parks, museums, art galleries, and cultural events--is synonymous with "quality of life." Founded in 1762, the city is also amazingly rich in history. Forever associated with Central Virginia's most famous native son, Thomas Jefferson, Charlottesville has also been home to Edgar Allan Poe, Dr. Walter Reed, the "conqueror of yellow fever," and Anastasia Manahan, pretender to the last Russian royal family. Among the many other notables who have walked our streets are Daniel Boone, Meriwether Lewis, James Monroe, George Armstrong Custer, well-known artist Georgia O'Keeffe, and novelist William Faulkner. With this book the Albemarle County Historical Society offers 10 walking, and driving, tours that guide visitors along these same tree-lined lanes. Chockfull of architectural detail, the tours also provide wonderful glimpses into Charlottesville's historic past.
The Historic Charlottesville Tour Book is a 200-page book containing 10 tours of the city. Each tour (of approximately 20 stops) features its own map, keyed to the numbered stops, and most of these are accompanied by a thumbnail photograph. The suggested retail price is $6.95 (state tax, shipping and handling extra). †Historical Society members can ask for a copy of the book for free at the Society's headquarters. †The book is also available at local bookstores and gift shops. †Booksellers can contact the Historical Society for wholesale terms. |
