Biographical/Historical Information: Abstract: The search for Jefferson's Mound leads to the broad outlines of contrasting aboriginal settlement patterns and systems by horticulturalists and non-horticulturalists in Albemarle County. These outlines demontrate close relationships between soils and the purposes for which they were used. These relationships probably obtained over most of the Piedmont.

Scope and Content:  This is a bound typescript of Albemarle County Settlements: A Piedmont Model by C[harlton] G. Holland. He discusses the early Native American settlements in Albemarle County, Va. and the Monocan tribe, along with the "Jefferson Mound," a Native American burial mound in the county. Manuscript has maps of locations of Native American archaeology finds in the county.
