Biographical/Historical Information:
William E. Jackson, Jr. (1888-1972) was the son of William E. Jackson, Sr. (1857-1922) and Nannie Cox (1865-1953). He owned the Jackson Poster Advertising Systems, which posted billboards in the Charlottesville area.
Jackson was active in civic work in Charlottesville. He founded the Crispus Attucks Post 62 of the American Legion, and during WWII was a coordinator for civilian defense for the city. He was a member of the Jefferson Lodge 20, A.F. and A.M.; of the First Baptist Church; and of the Advertising Federation of America.
Scope and Content:
This collection contains primarily receipts and contracts for the Jackson Poster Advertising Business, along with insurance policies for Jackson owned properties.
Folder 4 contains a program for an Elks Charity Show at the Jefferson Theatre (1929), an American Legion Convention program (1940), and piano sheet music for the American Legion (1939).
Some items in the collection have water damage.
