Biographical/Historical Information:

The Charlottesville Ministerial Association, a gathering of all churches and synagogues in the
Charlottesville area, regularly convened between 1946 and 1962, according to the minutes
preserved in the Albemarle Charlottesville Historical Society archives. Most likely, the
organization existed before and after those dates, but our knowledge is limited by our records.
Devoted to bridging cultural and denominational boundaries in a shared quest for a better, more
peaceful world, the organization, already interracial as early as 1951, began openly considering
the broader issue of full societal racial integration as early as 1952.

Although the organization does not exist in name today, its admirable function is preserved in the
current Unity of Charlottesville, an open worship opportunity for people of all faiths.
