Biographical/Historical Information: John Lewis (1678-1762) was an Irish immigrant who settled in the Shenandoah Valley around 1732 and is known as the founder of Staunton in Augusta County, Virginia. He built his home two miles east of Staunton on Lewis Creek. The home, on the farm now called "Bellefonte," is located off VA254. Lewis' gravesite, near the home, is surrounded by an iron picket fence.
Scope and Content: This is a copy of The Family of John Lewis, Pioneer, by Irvin Frazier. "Ruth N. Maverick" written on cover page. Also included is a bibliography, three family charts, and a typescript of the dedication of the John Lewis Monument, Staunton, Virginia., 30 May 1962.
