Biographical/Historical Information: The James Watson family settled in Amherst County, Virginia soon after its formation from Albemarle County in 1761. Family tradition stated that James Watson's father was "James Watson, who came from Scotland as King's Surveyor and settle in Charles City County, Virginia."
Scope and Content: This is a typescript of Notes on the Watson Family of Amherst County, Virginia by E. Alban Watson and his wife Lucille McWane Watson, Lynchburg, Virginia, 1960. It covers seven generations of the Watson family beginning with James Watson I, who came from Scotland to Surry County, Virginia. Also included are details of the Watson family in Albemarle County including Edward Watson, John Watson, and Egbert Read Watson.
